Nursing Students from Edith Cowan University, Australia Participating a Nursing Exchange Program at Walailak University

On 20 October 2014, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amara Changsub, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aswin Promsopa, Assistant to the President for International Relations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Valla Tantayotai, Dean of the School of Nursing, nursing faculty members, International Relations Officers, and international students welcomed Mrs. Melanie Baker, a lecturer, and nine nursing students from Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia to Walailak University (WU).

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amara Changsub remarked at the welcoming program that Walailak University is aware of the value of this program which enhances the academic qualities of the nursing programs at both universities. Besides, the participants will get to learn from each other the cultures of Australia and Thailand. She expressed her appreciation for both ECU and WU program managers, lecturers, staff and students for their efforts and contributions in making this program a truly collaborative academic activity. She hoped that this academic collaboration will be further continued in years to come and more avenues for our joint efforts will be explored to play a part in improving health of the peoples of the world.

Asst. Prof. Dr. Valla Tantayotai expressed her sincerest delight to have an opportunity to welcome the ECU delegation back to WU once again. This year is the thirteenth year of the collaboration program. The nursing student exchange program has shown that it is of great value to learn from one another in attempting to promote good health and well-being of people.

Mrs. Melanie Baker delivered her appreciative address to WU highlighting the goodwill collaboration of the two universities’ nursing schools to exchange and train their students’ community nursing practicum. She also thanked Walailak University for a warm hospitality rendered to her and the students.

In this occasion, WU international students from France and Indonesia, who have been living on campus for a time, also shared their valuable experiences to ECU students.

The program lasts for 2 weeks from 20 to 31 October 2014. Participating in the program, the ECU students will gain experiences by visiting health care units and hospital departments to learn about the Thai health care established system. In addition, meetings with traditional healers offer them a chance to learn about Thai local wisdom. The visit to places of interest will be arranged for them to learn about the Thai people, culture and their lifestyles.
