1.1 Bachelor of Civil Engineering
Degree Title: Bachelor of Engineering (Civil)
Abbreviation: B. Eng (Civil)
Programme Profile
The program focuses on the analysis and design of buildings, bridges, infrastructure systems, real estate development, advanced technology in construction materials as well as construction methods and construction management.
Career Opportunities
There is an increasing demand for engineers as Thailand expands its infrastructure base to accommodate foreign investment. Job opportunities are available in both public and private sectors, including the Department of Public Works, the Department of Highways, Department of Irrigation, Municipalities offices, the National Housing Authority, the Petroleum Authority of Thailand, the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, the Express and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority, the Provincial Electricity Authority, construction contractors, engineering consultancies, manufacturers and distributors of construction materials and accessories, and real estate developers.
1.2 Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
Degree Title: Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)
Abbreviation: B. Eng (Electrical)
Programme Profile
Analysis and designs in Electronics, Telecommunications, and Control systems.
Career Opportunities
There are various career opportunities for graduates in the public and private sectors in research, electronic and telecommunication industries.
1.3 Bachelor of Process Engineering
Degree Title: Bachelor of Engineering (Process Engineering)
Abbreviation: B. Eng (Process Engineering)
Programme Profile
Southern Thailand is an important source of raw materials for the rubber, plastics, food, and vegetable oil industries. In response to the National Development Plan's policy to make greater and more efficient use of local resources by Thai industrial producers, the School of Engineering and Resources Management offers this program which covers three areas of chemical engineering: polymer, process control, and bio-processing.
Career Opportunities
The first two years of this program is taken up with courses from the General Education program, and specialized courses in the basic professional training program, which aims at broadening the worldview of students of process engineering, to give them a good understanding of society and the ability to adapt themselves to it, enable them to work effectively with others, provide an ethical foundation, the desire to learn and self-discipline, and the ability to think systematically and rationally.
The second two years of the program focus on the specialized courses in engineering. These consist of courses in using computers, controlling equipment, the theory and practice of controlling, in order to fully prepare graduates in the field of process engineering with the knowledge and expertise in the controlling. Besides this there is the Cooperative Education in which Walailak University, in cooperation with employers, provides students with short-term workplace experience in a field of employment related to their program of study over a period of one term. Walailak University and the employer will closely monitor, supervise, and evaluate the student's progress. Thus the student will gain knowledge from two places, the University and the employer, with the Cooperative Education program acting as a bridge linking the two and so preparing the student for their working life following their graduation.
Career Opportunities
- Process Engineers able to work in all factories using processes
- Process Engineers, processed agricultural products, e.g.
- Factories producing agricultural or fisheries products
- Factories producing rubber or palm oil products
- Factories producing canned foods
- Factories producing pharmaceutical products
- Chemical Engineer
- Factories using chemicals for production (all factories)
- Factories producing petrochemicals / plastics / glue / rubber / iron
- Designing equipment used for chemical and engineering production processes
- Designing equipment and systems for environmental management
- Provides a foundation for graduate study in various fields, e.g.
- Polymer engineering
- Control engineering
- Petrochemical engineering
- Petroleum engineering
- Engineering and Environmental Management
1.4 Bachelor of Material Science and Engineering
Degree Title: Bachelor of Engineering (Material Science and Engineering)
Abbreviation: B. Eng (Material Science and Engineering)
Program Profile
This program seeks to develop students' knowledge and understanding in various fields of material science and engineering (e.g. metal, polymers, ceramics, construction materials). It covers the structure of materials; their physical and mechanical properties; the process of the formation of materials; the relationship between the structure - properties of materials and their formation; various applications of materials.
Students taking this course should have a strong background in physics and chemistry as well as a desire for academic achievement and interest in materials technology.
Career Opportunities
Graduates can work in various parts of the materials industry, e.g. production and processing factories, plastics factories, rubber processing factories, ceramics factories, factories producing construction materials, in such areas as production, quality control, research and development, etc.
