Program Profile

The Nursing School's Graduate Program at Walailak University believes that the health problems of individuals, families and society today are more complex than ever. People who are the victims of chronic illnesses and violence take a long time to recover. Solving health problems thus requires the use of modern technology, which thus makes it necessary that hospitals have a high capability, the best knowledge, ability and nursing experience to care for patients, as well as an understanding of how health issues are influenced by society, technology, and people's behaviour. Students in this program will develop the ability to empirical data and analyze it in order to develop innovations in nursing, to improve the quality of health care at the level of the individual, family, community, and society, to use resources efficiently, and also to formulate of policy to promote good health.

Teaching and learning in the Nursing School's Graduate Program thus aims to train individuals for lifelong learning, to develop professional nurses to use their scholarship in practice, who have a broad perspective, who have good analytical skils, who understand the development of social health in the past up to the present, and who are able to plan for the prevention and reduction of long-term health problems in the future. Students will develop the knowledge and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary field, the ability to use concrete methods to create real improvements in the area of physical and mental health, and to promote a balanced society and environment. Students will learn how to communicate information in an easy to understand manner and be able to effectively disseminate that knowledge to society for the greatest healthcare benefit.

Objectives

Graduates in the Master of Nursing Science (Adult Nursing) program will have the following knowledge and capabilities:

1) Possess a high level of knowledge and ability in the field of Adult Nursing, as well as having interdisciplinary knowledge;
2) The ability to develop tangible forms and methods of practicing nursing, using the most up-to-date knowledge while maintaining a balance between the global and the local;
3) The ability to practice nursing at the highest levels using the latest research and knowledge in the field of nursing and other related fields to develop on-going innovation in nursing practice;
4) The ability to analyze and synthesize research and health data in a concrete way, and to make it understandable and able to be used in practice, and able to be disseminated through the mass media in the most suitable ways for the improvement of community and social health;
5) The ability to carry out the role of administrator and manager in healthcare for individuals, the family and society, and to participate in developing policies to improve the quality of healthcare in health care service centers, the local community, and at the national level;
6) The ability to promote participation and decision-making in personal healthcare, family healthcare, social healthcare, on the basis of adherence to human rights, ethics, and professional regulations;
7) The ability to conduct research in order to evaluate and improve the quality of hospital care, especially in specialist areas

Program Profile

The Nursing School's Graduate Program at Walailak University believes that the development of the Master of Nursing Science (Community Health Nurse Practitioner) program will improve the capability of nurses by giving them a deeper knowledge and understanding in the field of nursing. It will provide them with the ability to use knowledge from numerous fields to consider, analyze, and synthesize methods to deal with the health problems of individuals, families and the community. Graduates will have the ability to practise nursing as a community health nurse practitioner at a high level. They will learn skills needed to promote health, prevent illness, cure disease and restore health, cooperate and coordinate with various professions to improve the quality of community health, develop systems of extending nursing services to health care in the home, develop strategies to monitor and eliminate risks which impact upon the health and well-being of individuals, families and the community, create equality in the area of population health using a form of nursing care that combines science and local wisdom and which covers the dimensions of body, mind, emotion, society and spirit, and create and develop knowledge in the field of community health nurse practice through research.

Objectives

Graduates in the Master of Nursing Science (Community Health Nurse Practitioner) program will have the following knowledge and abilities:

1. Possess a high level of knowledge and expertise in nursing practice in the area of Community Health Nursing Practice as well as having interdisciplinary knowledge;
2. Can analyze and synthesize the most up-to-date research and knowledge in the field of health in order to develop concrete methods and strategies for nursing practice, using both local and global sources of knowledge;
3. Can disseminate knowledge and coordinate with others for nursing practice in an interdisciplinary team;
4. Can carry out the role of administrator and manager in healthcare for individuals, the family and society;
5. Can analyze and present options for healthcare policy at the global, regional, national local, and organizational levels;
6. Can carry out research for the evaluation and improvement of the quality of nursing, especially in fields of expertise, to respond to advancements in academic knowledge and the needs of society;
7. Possess the skills needed to compile and disseminate knowledge to the wider community

Research

The School of Nursing has an active research programme, with current projects including studies into the Effectiveness of the Primary Care Provided at Midwifery Private Clinics; Cost-effectiveness of Primary Services Provided by Nurses' Private Clinics in Thailand; Primary Care Service System in the Context of Nursing at the Primary Care Unit (PCU) of a Southern Community Hospital; Implementation and Evaluation of DHF Care Map for Treatment of DHF Children at Songkhla Hospital; Development of Health Promotion Models in Satit Walailak-pattana Community; Stress, Coping, and Well-being of First-Year Baccalaureate Nursing Students; etc.
