H.E. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, a former Prime-Minister of Malaysia paid an official visit to Walailak University (WU)







On 22 April 2019 at Mokhalan Meeting Room, Administration Building, Walailak University, H.E. Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, the 5th Prime-Minister of Malaysia, Tun Jeane Abdullah, Mr. Mohd Afandi Abu Bakar, Consul-General of the Consulate of Malaysia, Songkhla, Dato Jefridin Haji Atan, Secretary General of Global Hadhari Network, delegations from Global Hadhari Network and Pandok Bantan paid an official visit to Walailak University. The honorable former Prime-Minister of Malaysia was warmly welcomed by Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development, together with WU Administrators, Deans, Staff and Students.





The objective of the visit was to get acquainted to Walailak University and the executive members as several Malaysian universities have strong relationships and concrete collaborative activities for years. Some activities have been done under the kind support of Mr. Mohd Afandi Abu Bakar, Consul-General of Consulate of Malaysia, Songkhla.

Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong uttered in his welcome speech that Walailak University aims to be a “University of Quality” striving on its internationalization, academic development and quality enhancement, as well as all refurbishment and renovation of buildings, landscape and infrastructure. He also reported the progress on the construction of Walailak University Hospital. Also stated in WU President Speech, Walailak University has been ranked 10th in the Nature Index Ranking 2018, and in 2019, 7th in the Scimago Institutions Ranking among Thai universities. There are 18 WU research excellence centers to produce research and innovation to meet the needs of community and the nation. After the official welcome, H.E. Tun Abudullah Badawi was accompanied by WU President to take a campus tour visiting WU Garden and the new Hospital and then the former Prime-Minister and his entourage departed Walailak University.
