WU, Thailand and UKM, Malaysia Signed a Memorandum of Agreement





On 28 October 2019, Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice-President for Global Engagement and Faculty Development, Assistant Professor. Dr. Nibondh Tipsrinimit, Dean of School of Liberal Arts, Dr. Jidtima Sunkhamani, Acting Dean of Walailak University International College, together with WU faculty members, staff and students welcomed a group of eleven executives and twenty-eight students led by Professor Datuk Dr. Rokiah Hj Omar, Director of Universiti Community Transformation Center, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) at Tumpang Meeting Room, Walailak University (WU), Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand.



The main purposes of the visit were 1) to share student volunteering and community service experiences between the two universities and 2) to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) primarily based on faculty level between WU School of Liberal Arts and UKM Faculty of Islamic Studies, co-hosting by UKM Universiti Community Transformation Center. At the MOA Signing Ceremony, Assistant Professor. Dr. Nibondh Tipsrinimit, Dean of WU School of Liberal Arts and Professor Datuk Dr. Rokiah Hj Omar, Director of UKM Universiti Community Transformation Center were the two authorized representatives who signed the Agreement in front of the witnesses from the two institutions.

The key contents of collaboration stated in MOA are 1) Weaving strategic alliances through joint research and international publications 2) Exchanging of lecturers and joint supervision by lecturers / professors 3) Implementing of mobility / attachment of undergraduates, graduates and researchers 4) Developing autonomous research and expertise and increasing human capital development and 5) Strengthening International cooperation (Malaysia and Thailand).

Moreover, there are some future possibilities of collaborations between UKM and WU in the fields of 1) Islamic Studies 2) Medical School 3) Inbound and Outbound Student Social Engagement Programs and 4) Academic visit to UKM by a team of WU executives to implement academic initiatives into concrete activities.
