COVID-19 situation at Walailak University

The number of students infected with COVID-19 on the campus remained at 11, and no further infections were reported. Proactive test results for risky students were negative, and the university continued to use DMHTT - Distancing, Mask wearing, Hand washing, Testing, and Thai Cha Na.

 Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee, Vice President for Administration, chair of prevention and surveillance of the COVID-19 committee, revealed that the 11 students were infected. The infection happened by the students having contacts with the J&T delivery staff. After that, the students found out they were infected with COVID-19 and spread it to others. From July 21, 2021 to today. There are no more infected students at Walailak University.

 However, the university has to separate the risky students for quarantine. Walailak University and Thasala Hospital proactively tested more than 200 students considered to risky, and the tested results were negative. The university confirmed that no more infected students.

 Regarding the COVID-19 prevention, Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee said people who enter the campus have to go through preliminary screening by body temperature check. Outsiders are not allowed enter the dormitory area, except the merchants in Chor Pra Du Food Center. A group of construction and renovation projects has outside laborers who are working on the campus. They have to comply with the Covid Service Center in Nakhon Si Thammarat and Walailak University announcements.

 Moreover, the university has to provide space for a Private Transport Service for delivering parcels to students and personnel. The transport service has to sterilize the parcels before delivery and follow the DMHTT by distancing, mask-wearing, hand washing, testing, and Thai cha na around the middle hall, on the first floor, Architect Building since, July 13, 2021. 

 Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee said that the important thing is vaccination. The university has operated following the policy of MHESI (Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation) lately the university has to vaccinate AstraZeneca to personnel for 950 doses. For the students, the university informs the vaccine to MHESI of around 9000 students. They will have allocated during August.

 Because of the COVID-19 situation in Nakhon Si Thammarat, there is a higher number of infected in the province. To prevent possible thinks to student, the university have suspended all face-to-face teaching, and instead delay term. If the student study uncomfortably at home, they can notify student affairs for study online at the dormitory.

 The thing that the university do from the beginning, it can be see that the outbreak can be prevented in some extent, but they might be factors that the university can’t expect from the outside. However, the problem was solved. The university will hasten vaccinating students and personnel as soon as the vaccine arrive, said Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee.
