This program focuses on developing an interdisciplinary knowledge of Southeast Asia’s societies, cultures, politics, and economies, with a special focus on Malaysia and Indonesia. All students are required to study Malay and Indonesian language as part of the course, and are encouraged to take part in one term “in-country” language programs in Malaysia and Indonesia. Graduates will gain an in-depth understanding of the main issues and controversies in Southeast Asian studies, as well as becoming fluent in Malay or Indonesian. Students also have the option of choosing a minor in Tourism, International Business Management, English or Chinese.
Graduates in Regional Studies will have the opportunity of working in the public or private sector in areas that deal with relations between Thailand and Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Indonesia. Such areas include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Interior, the Customs Department, the tourism and hospitality industry, Thai branches of Malaysian and Indonesian companies, Thai companies with operations in Malaysia and Indonesia, regional organizations associated with ASEAN, and research institutes focusing on Southeast Asian affairs.
