The Integrated Thai Studies Program offers three majors: Thai Language and Literature; Innovative Thai Studies; and Thai Language for Foreigners. Aiming to produce specialists in Thai Studies, the program is designed for those who are interested in an interdisciplinary knowledge of Thailand. The program provides integrated courses to assist with the development of understanding of Thai society and culture, as well as the historical evolution of Thailand. Emphasis is placed on the importance of the preservation of Thai identity, and understanding its place in the context of living harmoniously in plural society and culture. Students are required to analyze various aspects of a considerable body of Thai knowledge. They need to develop a sense of innovative thought in order to consider Thailand in global contexts. The program also focuses on Tai ethnic groups outside Thailand, for instance, in southern China, Vietnam and Laos. Additionally, the program extends to cooperation with international academic institutes offering curricula for foreign students in their student exchange programs.
Graduates with a degree in Integrated Thai Studies can work in academic fields, for instance as teachers, researchers, editors, translators and interpreters. There are several pathways to becoming government officers, public administrators, and staff members of national and international organizations. Taking advantage of language skills, graduates also have career opportunities in tourism and other businesses having commercial links between Thailand and other countries. They may also aspire to pursue further studies in various disciplines of the social sciences and humanities.
