Honorable Malaysian Ambassador visited Walailak University to preside over the openning ceremony on the occasion of UiTM Academic Visit and Seminar

On 26th October 2011, Walailak University had a great honor to welcome Her Excellency Dato' Nazirah binti Hussain, Malaysian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Thailand who presided over opening ceremony on the occasion of UiTMs Academic Visit and Seminar at Walailak University. The Ambassador was cordially welcomed by Dr.Keerath Sanguansai, President of Walailak University and university staff and students, Dean of Academy of Language Studies, 12 lecturers from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) (who had recently arrived at WU campus on 25th Octobers night) and 10 students from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The objectives of the academic visit and seminar were 1) to participate deans series seminar, academic seminar on advanced research empowerment: teaching and learning of Malay Language as a Foreign Language 2) to have an academic collaborative discussion on internationalization, activities with Malaysian universities, academic activities between WU School of Liberal Arts and UiTM and 3) to exchange cultural splendor of the two counties through cultural performances.

The President of Walailak University expressed that it was a great honor to have the Malaysian Ambassador, Dato' Nazirah binti Hussain preside over this special event. He also stated that UiTM and Walailak University have been in close contact since 2001 through staff exchanges and WU Regional Studies In-country Project. In addition, some of the UiTM lecturers have been our guest lecturers in the Malay language. He thanked the UiTM delegates for spending her precious time in making this visit as well as in participating in an academic seminar at Walailak University. He hoped that academic relationship between the two institutions would be continued and more avenues for the joint efforts will be explored.

After the presidents welcoming speech, the Dean of the Academy of Language Studies, Professor Madya Dr. Normah Abdullah expressed her wish for continuing existing collaboration with Walailak University in the undergraduate level as her institute is the main supporter for WU Regional Studies In-country Program. Further collaborative activities should be in the graduate level in the area of joint research and innovations. Dean of the Academy of Language Studies is hoping for the signing of a new MoU very soon since the old one has expired.

The honorable Ambassador expressed her pleasure to be present at the opening ceremony of the event-- UiTMs Academic Visit and Seminar at Walailak University today. Her Excellency stated, As the Ambassador of Malaysia to the Kingdom of Thailand, I am very delighted to be directly involved in this kind of activities as other than strengthening the bilateral relations through the traditional political spheres, other equally important areas like education and social activities would be paramount to complement the bigger political initiatives. After all, what could possible be the better way to strengthen the bilateral relations if not through the strengthening of people-to-people contacts like what we are doing at the moment Her Excellency believes that academic activities like a student exchange program which is a powerful medium to increase the interaction between two or more higher educational intuitions for internationalizations and it requires consistent efforts based on comparison and benchmarking in order of greater benefits among partners institutions and increase the networking of collaborations. She also mentioned that the Embassy can give full cooperation by playing the role as the bridge in linking any institutions in Malaysia and Thailand.
