On 22 March 2017, at the University Reception Room, Walailak University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Acting Vice-President for Academic Affairs and Global Engagement welcomed Prof. Dr. Shigeru Kato, Dr. Hiroshi Abe and Dr. Taisuke Nose, two executives from Sekisui Chemical Company, Japan. The objective of the visit were 1) to seek feasible collaboration between Walailak University and Sekisui Chemical Company and 2) to survey mudflats area in Nakhon Si Thammarat for mangrove planting project which continuously run by the collaboration between Japanese partners and Thai partners under the cooperation of Prof. Dr. Kato and Ajarn Suthira Thongkao, School of Engineering and Resources.
On this occasion, the Vice-President announced that Walailak University has recently appointed Prof. Dr. Shigeru Kato an advisor to the President of Walailak University in recognition of his academic efforts contributed to the university for years. Mr. Vice-President congratulates Professor Kato on the new appointment and presented a certificate of appointment to him in the presence of Director of International Affairs, representatives from School of Engineering and Resources, the Center for Cooperative Education and Career Development, and a representative from Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
During the discussion, Mr. Vice-President mentioned to establishment of a new MOU between Walailak University and Soka University as well as a possibility of sending WU students to Sekisui Chemical Company for their one term internship program. However, procedures and agreement of internship need more discussion in details.
