Walailak University welcomed seven nursing students from Edith Cowan University, Australia

On 22 October, 2012, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amara Changsub, Vice-President for Academic Affairs presided over an orientation program and gave a welcome speech to ECU delegation led by Ms.Carol Pinch, an ECU clinical supervisor, School of Nursing, Midwifery and Postgraduate Program. Also present at the orientation were Prof. Dr. Winai Pralomkarn, Vice-President for Finance and Assets, Asst. Prof. Dr. Anchalee Chayanuvat, Assistant to the President for International Relations, Asst. Prof. Dr. Wipawan Chaoum Pensuksan, Associate Dean of the School of Nursing, Dr. Prachyapan Petchuay, M.D., Associate Dean of the School of Medicine and forty WU staff and students.
 
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Amara Changsub remarked that Walailak University is aware of the value of this program which enhances the academic qualities of the nursing programs at both universities. Besides, the participants will get to learn from each other the cultures of Australia and Thailand. She expressed her appreciation for both ECU and WU program managers, lecturers, staff and students participants for your efforts and contributions in making this program a truly collaborative academic activity. She hopes that this academic collaboration will be further continued in years to come and more avenues for our joint efforts will be explored to play a part in improving health of the peoples of the world.
 
Ms. Carol Pinch delivered her appreciative address to WU representatives highlighting the goodwill collaboration of the two universities nursing schools to exchange and train their nursing students' community nursing practicum. She also thanked Walailak University for a warm hospitality rendered to her and the seven ECU nursing students.
 
Asst.Prof.Dr.Wipawan Chaoum Pensuksan, Associate Dean of School of Nursing expressed her sincerest delight to have an opportunity to welcome the ECU delegation back to our university once again in our eleventh year of the collaboration program, during 22 October-11 November 2012. The nursing student exchange program has shown that it is of great value to learn from one another and especially, our field of study is an attempt to promote good health and well-being, under the theme One Health, Discovery from the Thai Experience. While the students are here at WU, they will be taken on site visits to health care units and hospital departments to learn about the Thai health care established system. In addition, meetings with traditional healers offer them a chance to learn about Thai local wisdom. Visits to places of interest will be arranged to learn about the Thai people and their lifestyles.
 
On this orientation occasion, Walailak University and Edith Cowan University have been greatly honored by the presence of Professor Dr. A. Muslim, Vice-Rector for Planning and Cooperation and Professor Dr. Arinafril, Director of International Relations from Sriwijaya University, whose specialist field is in food toxicology. Dr. Arinafril gave a special lecture on "Toxins in ASEAN Foods" to ECU students and the audience.
