Walailak University visited the area to promote low-carbon tourism in Koh Samui.

July 22, 2024 - The Center for Academic Services (CAS) of Walailak University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, the Director of CAS and the project head, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onanong Cheablam from the School of Management, Mr. President of the Community and Social Business Network, and the working team of the Surat Thani and Nakhon Si Thammarat Fishermen Network, conducted an exploratory visit to evaluate the potential of selected pilot areas for developing a low-carbon ecotourism program. The team focused on three areas within Koh Samui District, Surat Thani Province:

Baan Tai Blue Swimming Crab Bank Learning Center (promoting sustainable conservation and restoration of blue swimming crab resources).

Honey Rose Herb Garden & Art (local herb learning for therapy and health food).

Prize Samui Buffalo Farm.

The initiative aims to use the Blue Swimming Crab Bank as a tool for managing marine and coastal resources, fostering cooperation among relevant networks to drive sustainable development. The project includes monitoring, visiting, and supporting knowledge signage, and repairing the Blue Swimming Crab Bank to ensure it remains functional and attractive. This effort is part of The Blue Crab Bank Project: A Holistic Coastal Resource Management Tool for Sustainable Utilization, funded by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) for the 2024 fiscal year.

The Blue Crab Bank Project: A Holistic Coastal Resource Management Tool for Sustainable Utilization, is an extension of the Blue Crab Bank initiative. It serves as a means to address and enhance the management of marine and coastal resources, aligning with the objectives of sustainable consumption as outlined in SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). The project also aims to restore marine and coastal biodiversity in accordance with SDG 14 (Life Below Water). Additionally, it seeks to improve the livelihoods of coastal communities through the principles of the blue economy and promote a low-carbon society in coastal areas.
