WU and Chiang Mai University Sign MOU to Advance Social Ecology for Sustainability and Livability

MUENG CHIANG MAI, CHIANG MAI, 9 December 2024 – Walailak University (WU), represented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum, Vice Director of the Center for Academic Services, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chiang Mai University (CMU), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sate Sampattagul, Director of the University Academic Service Center, and Prof. Dr. Sanchai Jaturasitha, Director of the Multidisciplinary Research Institute, to collaboratively advance social ecology for sustainability and livability. The signing ceremony took place at CMU’s University Academic Service Center and was attended by executives and delegations from both universities.

The MOU formalizes a partnership aimed at advancing social ecology for sustainability and enhancing livability. The collaboration focuses on mobilizing cities and communities through initiatives involving organizations, researchers, and students to raise awareness of environmental management and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This effort extends from the local to the national level. Additionally, the partnership emphasizes curriculum development tailored to meet the needs of local communities, fostering a Knowledge-Based Society for long-term benefits.

This joint initiative underscores the shared commitment of Walailak University and Chiang Mai University to Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 13: Climate Action and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. It also aligns with their dedication to advancing energy and climate change initiatives, as well as education and research, in line with the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings.
