Walailak University has once again earned international recognition for its strong commitment to sustainability and institutional governance, securing two prestigious honors at the 11th Global Good Governance (3G) Awards 2026.

The University was named the winner of the 3G Excellence Award for Green Campus in Thailand 2026 and the 3G Impact Award for Sustainable Development 2026. Organized by Cambridge IFA, the 3G Awards celebrate institutions and organizations worldwide that demonstrate excellence in good governance, sustainability, transparency, and social responsibility.

The official awards ceremony took place on April 28, 2026, in Singapore, gathering over 250 delegates from more than 12 countries across the government, corporate, and social sectors.

Notably, this marks the third consecutive year Walailak University has been celebrated on the global 3G Awards stage, underscoring a sustained trajectory of excellence.

Reflecting on the achievement, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, said:

“Walailak University is committed to becoming a leading model of sustainable development, encompassing internal governance and management, the advancement of education, research, and academic services that effectively respond to development needs at the regional and national levels, while achieving international recognition.”

The 3G Excellence Award for Green Campus recognizes Walailak University’s holistic approach to environmental stewardship across its operations and infrastructure.

The University has implemented a range of environmentally responsible initiatives, including the expansion of floating solar and rooftop solar systems to reduce reliance on conventional energy, comprehensive waste segregation and recycling programs across campus, and the development of green spaces and biodiversity conservation areas that support ecological balance.

It has also promoted sustainable transportation practices, such as shuttle services and walkable campus planning, as well as campaigns to encourage environmentally responsible behavior among students and staff.

Meanwhile, the 3G Impact Award highlights the University’s broader contributions to sustainable development through research, academic services, and community engagement.

Key efforts include the Blue Swimming Crab Bank project, which, alongside diverse community-engaged academic services, promotes holistic development across livelihoods, education, health, and environmental resources. Collectively, these projects strengthen community resilience and sustainability in alignment with the Walailak University “WU Happy Tree Model,” a blueprint for holistic, area-based community development.

Associate Professor Dr. Warit Jawjit, Vice President for Administration and Sustainable Development, accepted the awards on behalf of the University in Singapore. He highlighted the institution's strategic vision, saying:

“Walailak University has established a clear strategic policy framework to drive institutional development through a sustainability-oriented approach. This framework not only guides internal operations but also serves as a model for advancing sustainable development in external communities, positioning the University as a key learning hub and reference for stakeholders interested in sustainable development practices.”

Supporting these efforts toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Assistant Professor Dr. Amornsak Sawusdee, Director of the Center for Academic Services, emphasized the vital translation of research into real-world applications:

“The University articulates a clear vision of serving as a leading institution within its region while advancing global recognition. In the domain of academic services, it is committed to translating science, research, and innovation into tangible applications that generate measurable impacts across economic, social, and environmental dimensions. Furthermore, the University aspires to produce policy-level impacts that serve as national models and gain international recognition.”

The 3G Awards form part of the broader Global Good Governance initiative, which also includes the Global Good Governance Summit 2026, themed “AI Governance for the Prosperity of the People and the Planet,” and the Global Good Governance Report 2026. These platforms aim to advance dialogue and best practices in governance and sustainability worldwide.

Walailak University’s latest achievement underscores its growing global reputation and continued dedication to building a sustainable future.
