Associate Professor Dr. Pimlapas Pongsakornrungsilp, Dean of the School of Management at Walailak University, revealed that the school's executive team recently traveled to Taiwan to strengthen ties and lay the groundwork for academic cooperation with Prof. Hung-Yee Shu, President of Hungkuang University. The visit resulted in three key agreements: the development of a Double Degree program, an increase in the student exchange quota to at least 60 students per year, and the exchange of expert faculty members to share knowledge in the Tourism and Hotel Management and Professional Culinary Arts programs. Additionally, in August, students from Taiwan will travel to Walailak University for an exchange under the Digital Marketing and Branding Program.

Beyond academic cooperation, the School of Management also met with and negotiated partnerships with leading industry players in Taichung and Kaohsiung, including TYLER – Pattern / Visual Culture / Story; TZU HAO, creative design and event management leaders; and The AMNIS Hotel, Kaohsiung, an internationally recognized hotel. These engagements aim to broaden collaboration and diversify cooperative education placement opportunities, as well as to establish pathways for graduate studies that bridge industry and university, spanning the fields of Professional Culinary Arts, Tourism and Hotel Management, Digital Marketing and Branding, and Logistics Management.

"We do not view cooperative education as merely a general internship, but as a way to cultivate students within the real working world. Sending students to Taiwan or other countries builds skills within an international team context, which is a key factor enabling Walailak University graduates to compete on the global stage," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pimlapas.

At present, the School of Management at Walailak University pursues a proactive international cooperative education policy, expanding its network of partnerships across multiple regions worldwide, including Europe (Germany, the United Kingdom, Russia) and Asia (China, Hong Kong, Singapore), through scholarships, short-term programs, and hands-on training placements. In the 3/2025 and 1/2026 academic semesters, a total of 21 students from the Digital Marketing and Branding, Tourism and Hotel Management, Logistics Management, and Professional Culinary Arts programs are undertaking international cooperative education placements in pursuit of the goal of producing graduates with professional skills and cultural competence at the international level.
