The 21st of November 2019 marks a momentous occasion as the Walailak University International College (WUIC) had the honor to host a conversation with His Excellency Dr. Tej Bunnag and Her Excellency Madam Ambassador Nongnuch Petcharat.

Dr. Tej has held many diplomatic positions representing Thailand including a permanent representative role in the United Nations on behalf of Thailand and as the Thai Foreign Affairs Minister. He delivered a thought-provoking speech entitled “Thailand and Asia”, with plenty of references derived from his storied political career.

Madam Ambassador Nongnuch, also a board member of WUIC, has held key ambassadorial positions leading several overseas missions including Germany and Austria. She provided WUIC with a presentation entitled “EEC Thailand: Connecting the Connectivity”, which was an overview of the Eastern Economic Bloc project and the key challenges facing Thailand in the coming years.

The session ended with a few questions from our attentive students, to which both speakers entertained with encouraging and contemplative responses.

Followed by the talks, Walailak University International College (WUIC) celebrated her 2nd Anniversary with a Debate Competition. The motion of the debate was “The main focus of ASEAN is to ensure stable economic growth above all other concerns in the next 5 years”.

Selected students from WUIC formed two teams in the tradition and spirit of debating to deliberate on the motion. Both teams presented their views persuasively and left both the audience and judges in awe. The chief adjudicator, His Excellency Dr Tej Bunnag noted that the results were tallied to an aggregate score of 848-843, in favor of the proposition team. And the best speaker was unanimously awarded to Natali (from Zimbabwe) of the opposition team. Anyone present at the debate could attest to the mettle and professionalism of the students from WUIC – the makings of Global Leaders indeed.
