Researcher of Walailak University won the RSP Innovation Award 2020

Associate Professor Dr. Warin Intana, a researcher in the field of Food Industry at the School of Agricultural Technology, Walailak University, and creator of “Trichoderma 5 Plus” (International Standard Biological Products) won the RSP Innovation Award 2020 at RSP Innovation Day 2020.

Associate Professor Dr. Warin Intana, Acting Deputy Dean of the School of Agricultural Technology, revealed that he was the representative from South Thailand who brought the Trichoderma 5 Plus product to the competition for commercial innovation. Under the theme of National
Innovation/Commercial Processes at the Regional Science Park Innovation Day 2020 (RSP Innovation Day 2020) a network of 44 higher education institutions participated in the competition. This event was organized by the Office of the Secretary of the Promotion of Science Park (PHS), Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) between 17 - 18 November 2020 at Promotion Floor, 1st Floor, Zone B, Central Plaza Ladprao, Bangkok.

The results of the contest revealed that the research work on “Trichoderma 5 Plus” qualified for the RSP Innovation Award 2020 and was granted a plaque along with a prize of 70,000 baht from Professor Dr. Sirirurg Songsivilai, M.D., Permanent Secretary of MHESI.

Associate Professor Dr. Warin said that his work on Trichoderma 5 Plus is an innovative approach that effectively combines five elements to create new protections for agricultural products. The product consists of Trichoderma NST-009, which has proved most effective in plant disease control, Metarhizium WU-003--the most effective substance in controlling worm and beetle pests, Beauveria WU-002—the most effective agent in control of aphid and caterpillar pests, calcium and magnesium nutrients that increase the growth and strength of plant cells, and additional substances that strengthen and stimulate the immune system of plant cells. This particular combination helps farmers save money and labor because the product can remedy many problems affecting plant growth and pest control.

“I am very happy and delighted because this is an honored and nationally-awarded prize as well as the first award of its kind for Walailak University and Southern Science Park. This is an affirmation of the quality of the university's research capability and that it can both be developed for commercialization and truly benefit the economy and society of the country. Thank you Walailak University and the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry Program for providing me research opportunities and support. Thanks to the team at Walailak University Science and Technology Park, the Southern Science Park for all the support for the competition, as well as MHESI, who provides this platform for researchers and businessmen to demonstrate their talents,” said Associate Professor Dr. Warin.
