On Thursday, March 24th 2022 at Mokhalan Meeting Room, 2nd Floor of Administration Building, the Center for International Affairs (CIA) organized the 2nd International Staff’s Meeting with the President. This gathering function was organizing hybridly online and onsite in order to provide a special occasion for our international members to meet with Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University who will share with the international colleagues this passing years’ successes, university policies and encourage them to think ahead of the future grater achievements. 

 There were 28 international staff including 12 onsite and 16 online attended this event. Also present at the onsite venue were Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President and Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Acting Director for International Affairs who encouraged the attendees to share their research updates, ideas and inspirations of research publication with friends.  

On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University thanked to all international colleagues for their presence at the meeting. He highlighted some keys achievements and new policies as follows: 1) an increasing number of publication from 124 (2016) to 584 (2021) and more than 80% of them are in Scopus Q1 and Q2 2) one-to-one publication policy 3) more English courses and using English as a medium of instruction 4) an increasing number of refreshment students from 1,700 (2019) to 3,100 students (2021) 5) UKPSF teaching reform and 469 lecturers have been awarded certificates from Advance Higher Education, United Kingdom 6) the renovation of 150 smart classrooms and laboratory facilities 7) 640 new dormitory rooms for new student intake 8) new offices for faculty members and supporting staff 9) QS Asia Rankings and THE Impact Rankings and aim to be ranked by THE World University Rankings in 2023 10) Walailak Research Convention 2022 11) Walailak University Hospital’s IPD service and 12) Article Publishing Charges will be launched in October 2022 as an encouragement of research Scopus Q1 publication with international collaboration.  

For the next meeting on 24 August 2022, President Sombat Thamrongthanyawong has invited all international staff members to have an onsite meeting at Walailak University Hospital as he would like all international colleagues to visit our newly opened hospital.
