RSPG-WU Coordination Center organizes training on local resource-based operations "Assistant Speaker Training "


     The Plant Genetic Conservation Project Under the Royal Initiation of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Walailak University (RSPG-WU) together with the RSPG and RATCH Group Public Company Limited, organized the training on local resource base operations, “Assistant Speaker” training program for the network coordination center of RSPG and coordinating center of RSPG to prepare for being an assistant speaker for the personnel both agencies, and equip speaker assistant with knowledge and understanding in their working principles 2-5 August 2022. 


     On August 2, 2022, an opening ceremony for the training was presided over on behalf of the president of Walailak University by Associate Professor Dr. Charan Boonkan, Acting Vice President. Following the opening remark was a brief report on the event by Prof. Dr. Thawatchai Supadit, Acting Vice President, as Director of the Coordination Center of the RSPG-WU, along with Mr. Pornchai Juthamas, Deputy Director of the RSPG, Dr. Piyarat Prinyapong Charoensap, Assistant to the Director and Ms. Ladawan Khampha. Joining the event were also The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN), United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Thailand, RSPG Speaker, representatives of the network centers of RSPGS, and the coordination centers of RSPGS from universities across the country. The event recorded a turnout of over 100 attendees at the Hua Taphan Conference Room, Walailak University Hospital Building. 

 


    In the opening remark, Associate Professor Dr. Charan said that Walailak University has participated in the RSPG project since 2019 and according to the RSPG master plan, in the 5th period, Year 7, the RSPG-WU Coordination Center has been established in support of the RSPG project under the Royal Initiative. For this assistant speaker training on local resources, the Coordination Center of RSPG-WU would like to thank RSPG Suan Chitralada for this opportunity to host the training. Associate Professor Dr. Charan also expressed gratitude for partial operation funding from the RATCH Group Public Company Limited.  The event received overwhelming interest from over 60 staff members at the RSPG Network Center and RSPG Coordination Center, totaling 20 centers.

Department of Her Royal Highness Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn presiding over the opening ceremony of the meeting on September 19, 2022,” said Associate Professor Dr. Charan. 


      Prof. Dr. Thawatchai Supadit said, "Walailak University as the RSPG issue-based network institute RSPG (Network C - RSPG) in the upper southern region operating under the 8-activity framework according to the RSPG master plan has organized a training program on local resource base operations “Assistant speaker course” to prepare the RSPG personnel from the two agencies for a speaker assistant’s responsibilities. This includes creating knowledge and correct understanding of the working principles and the work process of assistant speakers in the local resource base. Participants will engage in an exchange of knowledge, and experiences, including problems and obstacles that occur in the operation of the RSPG Network Coordination Center and the RSPG Coordination centers in Thailand. The mission aligns with the university’s policy in teaching, research, academic services, and the preservation of arts and culture for conservation and sustainable utilization of resources in the targeted areas.” 


    In this regard, RSPG implements a policy for all 9 RSPG issue-based network institutes of RSPG OHEC - Offices of the Higher Education Commission (Network C - RSPG), applies to be an RSPG coordination center, and organizes training activities under the RSPG Coordination Center project as well as conducting training for school-based botanic gardens and RSPG local resource base works. Each center is staffed by at least 5 speakers who have participated in the RSPG training and passed the examination to become an official RSPG speaker.
