Walailak University welcomes international students of Academic Year 2022 in the CIA International Student Orientation Program 

 

Center for International Affairs (CIA), Walailak University, organizes a one-day orientation to welcome over 20 international students of Academic Year 2022 to Walailak University. The program arranged in a form of informal participatory activities is aimed to provide opportunities for networking, and learning about Walailak University and important information on overseas relocations. 


    On 17 August 2022 at Khao Luang Chamber conference room, Cooperative Education Building, Walailak University, Center for International Affairs (CIA), Walailak University, organizes the CIA International Student Orientation attended by international students newly accepted to various programs. The event was presided over by Ms. Jiraporn Kansuwan, CIA officer overseeing Collaborations and Rankings, on behalf of Asst. Prof. Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of Center for International Affairs. Ms.Jiraporn gave a brief welcome speech to welcome the students, together with Ms. Fareenah Jehsani, CIA officer overseeing Staff and Student Mobility. Joining the opening were also Ms. Chozin, a current Ph.D. student from Burma, studying in the School of Public Health, and Ms. Nootchanat Sukkaew, representative of WU Global, Division of Corporate Communication, Walailak University. 


    Following the welcome speech, each of the students from 9 countries including Russia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, China, Burma, Nepal, and Ethiopia shared the reasons why Walailak University is their choice for overseas higher education reflecting three aspects namely scholarship opportunities, unique academic environment, international cooperative education opportunities and chances to assimilate into Thai culture and learn Thai language. 

 


    “I chose to study here because it has always been my dream to study abroad and at Walailak University, there is also a chance for international cooperative education which I am really interested,” said Mary, an undergraduate student majoring in Business Administration program. 


    After that, Ms. Jiraporn proceeded to introduce CIA team members responsible for each task relevant to international education while the major focuses were on basic essential topics, namely immigration procedures and health insurance. Following the presentation were Ms. Cho Zin, representative of current international students pursuing her doctoral program in Health, Environment and Safety, shared her experience of a four-year-long living in Thailand as well as her life at Walailak University. 


    “I am studying Health, Environment and Safety under Asst. Prof. Dr. Warit Jawjit. My research nature requiring going in the field to collect data allows me to learn to communicate with people. I used to work as a humanitarian practitioner and in my job, I integrated the knowledge in health, environment, and safety to sustainably improve sanitation in a refugee camp,” said 


     Ms. Cho Zin mentioned the Merit Excellence scholarship opportunity and her research interest shared with Asst. Prof. Dr. Warit Jawjit, Dean of the School of Public Health and her supervisor. Lastly, Ms. Zin emphasized Walailak University’s endeavor to grow which inspires her to be part of the university. 


     “Even though the graduate program in which I am studying is quite new, I feel that we are growing together to achieve our dream. Walailak University is a research university driven by a goal to become a world-ranking university,” added Ms. Zin. The orientation concluded with teamwork games followed by a university-arranged city tour to Nakhon Si Thammarat’s cultural and historic landmarks such as Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan, the City Pillar, the City Wall, and sightseeing around the city.
