Walailak University Hospital is Now Open with a Capacity of 426 Beds

Walailak University Hospital has officially opened its first phase with 426 beds. With advanced medical equipments, Walailak University Hospital aims to be the largest tertiary hospital in the upper south of Thailand, providing medical services for both inpatients and outpatients.

Walailak University Hospital was funded by the Thai government with 5.6 billion Baht in 2016. It was constructed on an area of over 405 Rai or 56 Hectares. Walailak University Hospital aims to eventually operate with 750 beds, providing medical services for people in the upper south area, as well as being a medical school and promoting medical research.

On 24 November 2022, Mr. Apinan Phuakphong, Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, as the chairperson of the opening ceremony of Walailak University Hospital, said, “We, as residents of Nakhon Si Thammarat, are very proud of Walailak University. We received so many pieces of good of news from the President. We are glad to have Walailak University Hospital, one of the best hospitals in Thailand, located here”.

Currently, the construction of Walailak University Hospital Phase 1 is completed with 426 beds. The hospital is equipped with many medical equipments.

“Today’s official opening ceremony will be an important mechanism in improving the well-being of people in Nakhon Si Thammarat and the upper south region. And, it will be a source of knowledge in health science that will be beneficial in academia,” said Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, Walailak University President.

Associate Professor Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee, the director of Walailak University Hospital, said, “The Hospital is now ready to provide services with 426 beds. We aim to be a quality medical school as well as provide advanced tertiary care services to patients, with the motto Your Life is my Life”.

Walailak University Hospital’s inpatient services include smart OR rooms, smart ICU rooms, negative pressure isolation rooms, maternity care patient rooms, neonatal intensive care rooms, special inpatient rooms, special VIP rooms with space for relatives, a convalescence ward, and an elderly ward.

The hospital also provides services for outpatients with specialized treatment from 15 clinics: eye clinic, ear nose and throat clinic, internal medicine clinic, health check-up clinic, respiratory disease clinic, orthopedic clinic, obstetrics and gynecology clinic, children’s clinic, skin and beauty clinic, Rak chai (psychiatry) clinic, surgery clinic, rehabilitation clinic, and dental clinic.

Moreover, modern equipment from the radiation department to conduct diagnostic services includes Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) Scan, Fluoroscopy, Mammogram, Bone Densitometry, and Ultrasound.

Patients who receive services from the hospital can use treatment rights such as direct reimbursement of civil servants, state enterprise’s rights, rights of local government organizations, 30 Baht Gold Card, life insurance from FWD Company, Krungthai-AXA Company, and Thai life insurance Company.
