Walailak University is Ranked the No. 1 Green University in Southern Thailand for Three Consecutive Years

On 12 December 2022, at 5.00 PM, UI Green Metric released the results of its World University Rankings 2022 which placed Walailak University at 111th among 1,050 universities worldwide. This translated to the no.1 Green University in Sothern Thailand.
 

This year, Walailak University has moved up to 7th place in Thailand and 111th globally, compared to last year at 8th in Thailand and 116th globally.
 
The UI Green Metric World University Rankings was initiated by the University of Indonesia, in 2010, with the belief that universities play a significant role in combating climate change as well as promoting environmental activities.
  
The rankings consisted of six criteria: (1) setting and infrastructure, (2) energy and climate change, (3) waste, (4) water, (5) transportation, and (6) education and research. Among these criteria, Walailak University received the highest score in the nation for setting and infrastructure, and had a total score of 8,125 points. 
 
Walailak University, under the leadership of Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, has policies for managing the campus’s environment in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These policies meet all six criteria of the UI Green Metric and made several changes such as the use of the Digital Office Management System (DOMS) in place of paper, the use of e-meeting system, Digital Transcript, and solar-powered cars.
