Walailak University Students Participate in the 22nd IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2023 in Indonesia

Walailak University students participated in the 22nd IMT-GT Varsity Carnival 2023 in Indonesia, engaging in the exchange of culture, academics, and sports. The event brought together 12 member universities from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Associate Professor Dr. Voravuth Somsak, Vice President of Walailak University and Deputy Chairman of IMT-GT Varsity Council, revealed that Walailak University sent a total of 55 students and staff to join the 22nd Carnival, which was held from 8 to 12 July 2023 at Universitas Syiah Kuala Banda, Banda Aceh, Indonesia. The event aimed to facilitate the exchange of experiences and foster relationships among students from the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), which comprises Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Walailak University students participated in four sports: football, volleyball, badminton, and petanque. They showcased cultural performances under the theme Exploring ASEAN Cultures Through Traditional Contemporary Dance. The performances included two sets of ASEAN contemporary dances: The Mask Contemporary Dance and the dance of Nakhon Si Thammarat. The students also participated in an academic seminar on the topic Hybrid Learning Method: Challenge and Benefit in Improving Quality Post Covid-19.

"This event, apart from providing students with the opportunity to experience life abroad, also prepares them to be responsible for their roles as they participate in team preparation and training. Importantly, the students will have international friends who can become a valuable network for them in the future, making it easier if they'd like to work in the ASEAN region. Walailak University has intensified its English language curriculum. Through participation in this event, students can apply their English language skills in real-life situations to help them effectively communicate with people from different countries. It also helps them recognize the importance of using the English language," said Associate Professor Dr. Vorawut.
