Walailak University Signs MOU with De La Salle University, Philippines, to Promote Academic Collaboration

Walailak University’s School of Liberal Arts and De La Salle University’s College of Liberal Arts, Philippines, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote academic collaboration. The virtual signing ceremony took place today at Chorpradu Chamber, Walailak University Hospital.

The five-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University (WU), and Br. Bernard S. Oca FSC, President of De La Salle University (DLSU). Signing as the witnesses of this collaboration were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sarawoot Palipoch, WU Vice President and Dean of School of Liberal Arts, and Dr. Rhoderick Nuncio, Dean of DLSU College of Liberal Arts. Also present were executives and distinguished guests from both parties.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong said that he is happy to learn that the School of Liberal Arts at Walailak University and College of Liberal Arts at De La Salle University intend to work together to promote international collaboration.

He said: “We do need a great partner to walk along. May I express my appreciation for your extended friendship in joining our journey towards quality international education together. I do look forward to our future fruitful collaboration for the greatest benefit of our valuable students.”

De La Salle University is a top private university in the Philippines, ranked 1201-1500 globally by Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023. Earlier in March, the School of Liberal Arts at Walailak University has sent English major students (international program) to participate in 2 courses at DLSU for six weeks. 

According to the MOU, the academic areas that both institutes have agreed to collaborate on include exchange of researchers and administrative staff, exchange of faculty, exchange of students, joint research activities and publications, dual/double degree programs, lectures and symposia, special short-term academic programs, exchange of publications and materials containing academic information, and other areas of academic cooperation based on mutual agreement.

Since its establishment in 1992, Walailak University has witnessed numerous improvements and achieved global recognition. On 3 July 2023, THE Young University Rankings placed Walailak University at joint third in Thailand or at 501+ in the world. The university has also made significant progress in its contributions to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals, with 4 SDGs: SDG2 Zero Hunger, SDG6 Clean Water and Sanitation, SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG14 Life Below Water ranked among the world’s top 100 according to the 2023 THE Impact Rankings.
