Let’s Design Donates ฿100K to Walailak University International Exchange Scholarship, Enhancing Students’ Experience Through Short Courses Abroad

Today, Walailak University (WU), led by Associate Professor Dr. Surin Maisrikrod, Vice President, received 100,000 Baht from Let’s Design Company Limited to support students in gaining experience abroad.

The donation, presented at the Honor Hall of WU Hospital by Ms. Pattamaporn Kecharananta, will contribute to Walailak University International Exchange Scholarship (WUIES).

Initiated in July last year by Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of WU, the scholarship aims to support students in gaining international experience through short courses and exchange programs.

Vice President Surin Maisrikrod said Walailak University, as a Thailand’s leading comprehensive research university, has been addressing community needs and striving for international recognition for excellence, aligning with the university’s mission.

“One of the things that we are doing is supporting students, as many as possible, to gain experience abroad. That is the reason the scholarship was established.”

“And being a world-class institution, we need to nurture graduates who have a comprehensive understanding of the world,” he said.

Ms. Pattamaporn Kecharananta, Director of Let’s Design, said that the company is delighted to be a part of this initiative.

"Having had the opportunity to study abroad, I know that this scholarship will provide an amazing opportunity for students to commit to their education, become an inspiration to others, and be an example to their peers,” she said.

Since Professor Dr. Sombat assumed the presidency in 2016, Walailak University has undergone many transformations. In addition to quality research, teaching, and student mobility, the university places a strong emphasis on improving students’ language proficiency, especially in English, Chinese, and languages of neighboring countries such as Malay.

In 2023, WU was ranked for the second time by Times Higher Education, placing it at 1201 – 1500 worldwide among 1,904 research-intensive universities ranked. In the category of Young University, 50 years or younger, it was placed at 501+ globally or no.3 in Thailand.

Attending the event were also Assistant Professor Dr. Mongkol Teerananond, Assistant to the President; Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of Center for International Affairs; and Ms. Hattakarn Karunpaisarn, Head of Division of Finance and Accounting.
