Walailak University organized a training activity on measuring carbon sequestration in plant biomass in the university forest area under the UI GreenMetric 2024 Project.

On June 10-11, 2024, the Center for Academic Services of Walailak University and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum organized a practical training workshop for university personnel, including staff from the Walailak Botanic Park (WBP) and interns from Kasetsart University, who were training at WBP. The workshop focused on measuring carbon sequestration in plant biomass in the forested area of Walailak University as part of the UI GreenMetric 2024 Project.

On June 10, 2024, the activities included a lecture session on methods for measuring carbon sequestration in plant biomass to prepare for the T-VER Project’s Registration in the Forest Sector. This session was held in Meeting Room 3 of the Research Building at Walailak University. Moreover, the practical session involved field training on setting up plots for collecting data on plant species and using measurement instruments. This took place in a forest area opposite the ST Building at Walailak University, covering one plot.

On June 11, 2024, the activities included further field training on setting up plots for collecting data on tree species and using measurement instruments. Data was collected on trees and tree species in two plots: one in the forest area near the Walailak University Hospital and the other in the original forest area of WBP. The instructor for the entire workshop was Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum from the School of Management, Walailak University.

The practical training workshop on measuring carbon sequestration in plant biomass in the forested area of Walailak University, part of the UI GreenMetric 2024 Project, aligns with the UI GreenMetric guidelines on setting and infrastructure (SI). Additionally, it adheres to Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13, which focuses on climate action.
