THASALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 7 June 2024 Walailak University, the International College, and the Center for Academic Services organized a training workshop titled “Essential English for Restaurant and Food and Beverage Workers” at Meeting Room 1, Research Building, Walailak University. The event featured 30 restaurant workers attending the workshop from 7 restaurants in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The speakers at the training workshop were Dr. Suchita Manajit and Dr. Konrawan Rattanaburi, lecturers from the WU International College.
The workshop was part of the project “Tha Sala Global: The Global Neighbour” and was organized to prepare the societies in Tha Sala District for international communities due to the rapid growth of the international worker population in the district. During the workshop, the attendees learned the basics of conversation in English for restaurant services, including greeting customers, giving directions, taking customers’ orders, handling customers’ complaints, etc.
However, the record suggests that the population of Chinese people in Tha Sala District has increased significantly in the past 3 years. Thus, Dr. Suchita Manajit and Dr. Konrawan Rattanaburi decided to organize an ad-hoc session in the workshop on basic Chinese conversation that was implemented by WU Chinese students. At the end of the workshop, the speakers gave certificates to all attendees. Regarding sustainability, this workshop was specifically organized for SDG 4: Quality Education—providing free access to education for those not studying at Walailak University.
