On 30 August 2024, a delegation from Walailak University (WU) International Affairs Task Force paid a courtesy call to H.E. Mr. Rachmat Budiman, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, and Cyti Daniela Aruan, Education and Culture Attaché, at the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bangkok. The visit aimed to foster international collaboration and showcase WU’s accomplishments in research excellence, contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and its broader commitment to global well-being.
The WU delegation, which included Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President; Assistant Professor Dr. Chantira Wongnen, Deputy Dean of the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry; Dr. Suchita Manajit, Deputy Dean of Walailak University International College (WUIC); and Assistant Professor Dr. Shubham Pathak, Assistant Dean of the College of Graduate Studies, engaged in fruitful discussions with the embassy representatives.
During the meeting, the WU delegation highlighted the university’s 19 international postgraduate programs and the availability of scholarships to support human resource development in Indonesia. Both parties also explored potential educational and research collaborations, including WU’s role in fostering exchange students and contributing to Indonesia’s academic growth.
Discussions further covered key topics such as Halal food hub policies, updates on the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT), and the Indonesian Alumni Fair scheduled for October 2024. The Embassy expressed interest in WU’s PhD grants and explored opportunities for partnership through the Thailand International Cooperation Agency and Indonesian government funding to support exchange students.
The Embassy of Indonesia conveyed its best regards to WU’s President, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, and agreed to share information about WU’s programs and opportunities across Indonesian academic networks.
