Walailak University Scores Continue to Rise, Aims to Rank 1001+ Globally in Next Year’s World Rankings

Walailak University has successfully participated in the 2025 World University Rankings, achieving a consistent increase in scores for the third consecutive year. The university currently ranks 6th in Thailand and 1201-1500 globally, with its average score only one point below the 1001-1200 range. It is expected to secure a spot in 1001-1200 range next year.

On October 9, 2024, Times Higher Education (THE) announced the results of the 2025 World University Rankings on its website (https://www.timeshighereducation.com). Walailak University ranked 1201-1500 globally out of 2,092 research-intensive universities from 115 countries. Nationally, the university is placed 6th out of 20 Thai universities that were ranked. Notably, the university's research quality score saw a significant increase from 35.5 in the previous year to 51.7 points, placing it 5th nationally for research quality.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, expressed his gratitude to the university’s management team, faculty members, and staff for their hard work, which has led to higher scores across various dimensions. He highlighted that Walailak University now holds the highest proportion of research publications in Scopus Q1 and Q2 journals in the country, reflecting a significant improvement in research quality.

Crucially, the university has implemented the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) for teaching and learning, equipping students with critical, analytical, and synthetic thinking skills. The university now has over 700 instructors certified by Advance HE under the UKPSF, the highest number in Thailand. This has been a key factor in the university’s rise to 6th place nationally.

"By 2027, we aim to be among the top 5 universities in Thailand and within the 1001-1200 band globally. We believe this will boost the confidence of students and parents in the university’s quality and potential, leading to increased enrollment at Walailak University," said Professor Dr. Sombat.

The THE World University Rankings 2025 evaluated universities across five key pillars: Research Quality (30%), Teaching (29.5%), Research Environment (29%), International Outlook (7.5%), and Industry (4%).
