On November 26, 2024, the Walailak University (WU) delegation, led by Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President for Global Engagement, visited the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Bangkok. Accompanying her were Asst. Prof. Dr. Wachiraporn Poungjinda, Assistant Dean for International Affairs of the College of Graduate Studies, and Dr. Kamontip Klaibanmai, Associate Dean of the School of Education and Liberal Arts (SELA). The delegation was warmly welcomed by the newly appointed Chargé d'Affaires a.i., Mr. Richard Aladekoyinbo, and his team, including Mr. Madaki Hassan Kato, First Secretary, and Mr. Dickson Agwu Chibueze, Consular.
This visit marked the second meeting between WU and the Nigerian Embassy, reaffirming a strong relationship. The embassy team expressed their commitment to furthering collaborations established by the previous Chargé d'Affaires and expressed their full support for ongoing initiatives.
During the meeting, the WU delegation emphasized the university’s commitment to advancing sustainable development goals and its dedication to serving the global community. To celebrate its upcoming 33rd anniversary, WU announced postgraduate scholarships aimed at attracting talented Nigerian students to its academic programs.
In response, the Nigerian Embassy introduced the Technical Aid Corps (TAC) Scheme, which facilitates the deployment of Nigerian university professors to teach abroad. Under this program, professors can join WU for two years, with salaries funded by the Nigerian government and WU providing accommodation and facilities. Dr. Kamontip Klaibanmai, Associate Dean of SELA, on this occasion, expressed enthusiasm for welcoming volunteer lecturers to teach in the English major program, fostering a global academic environment. Discussions also explored the potential for joint research projects and deeper academic ties, with the Nigerian Embassy committing full support for these initiatives.
