Walailak University Delegation Visits Birmingham City University and Aston University, Collaborating on Research and Teaching

On December 5, 2024, Walailak University Council and university executives, led by Mr. Teerachai Chemnasiri, Chairman of the Walailak University Council, and Prof. Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, visited two prominent UK universities - Birmingham City University and Aston University - to explore opportunities for further collaboration.

In the morning, the delegation met with Professor David Mba, Vice-Chancellor of Birmingham City University. During this meeting, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster future collaborations between the institutions. Later, in the afternoon, the delegation met with Professor Vikas Kumar, Associate Dean for Research Innovation and Enterprise at the Faculty of Business, Law, and Social Sciences, and faculty members at the university’s Curzon Building.

The delegation then traveled to Aston University, where they met with Professor Jun Jie Wu, Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), at the John Cadbury House, Council Room. The discussions focused on the exchange of institutional information, Walailak University’s short study abroad programs for international students, and the development of research collaborations.

Both UK universities proposed several potential collaborative formats in Transnational Education (TNE), including offering UK courses at Walailak University, developing joint programs where students earn degrees from both universities, and allowing students to begin their studies at Walailak University before transferring to the UK to complete their degrees, with credit transfers between the two institutions.
