Walailak University Ranked First Among Thai Regional Universities for Governance According to QS Sustainability Rankings 2025

Walailak University was ranked first among 10 Thai regional universities for governance, achieving a score of 86.4 out of 100 in the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability 2025. Nationally, the university holds third place among the 18 Thai institutions included in the rankings.

The QS Sustainability Rankings 2025, which evaluate universities’ ability to address global environmental, social, and governance (ESG) challenges, were announced in December 2024. The rankings are based on nine performance lenses across three categories: Environmental Impact (45%), Social Impact (45%), and Governance (10%).

Among these categories, Walailak University performed strongest in Governance, ranking first among regional universities, third in Thailand, and 268th globally. This accomplishment highlights the university’s dedication to practices such as open decision-making, a holistic ethical organizational culture, student representation on governing bodies, and financial transparency.

For the other two categories, Walailak University was ranked 10th in Thailand and 1001+ globally for Social Impact, and 12th in Thailand and 1001+ globally for Environmental Impact.

The 2025 Sustainability Rankings feature 1,744 institutions across 107 countries. In the overall rankings, Walailak University was placed 951–960 worldwide or 11th in Thailand. On the global stage, the University of Toronto in Canada secured the top position, followed by ETH Zurich in Switzerland in second place, while Lund University in Sweden and the University of California, Berkeley in the United States tied for third place.

As part of the university’s commitment to embody good governance and drive transformations aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Walailak University received two prestigious awards from the Global Good Governance (3G) Awards. Organized by the UK-based financial intelligence house Cambridge IFA, the awards recognized President of Walailak University, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, as the winner of the 3G Award for Advocacy of Social Responsibility in Higher Education, and Walailak University as the recipient of the 3G Excellence Award for Green Campus 2024.
