Walailak University Wins Grand Prize for Best Innovation at IPITEx 2025 on Thailand Inventors’ Day 2025



Walailak University won the highest award - Grand Prize 2025 – for the best innovation at the Bangkok International Intellectual Property, Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exposition (IPITEx 2025), held as part of Thailand Inventors’ Day 2025. The prestigious award was presented for the project "Innovative Composite Bar Mesh: GFRP Wire Mesh," developed by a research team from the Civil Engineering Program, School of Engineering and Technology.

Beyond this top honor, Walailak University also secured three gold medals for innovative projects, developed by second- and third-year civil engineering students under the guidance of Associate Professor Dr. Thanongsak Imjai: Eco-friendly Geopolymer Lava Bench, Low-carbon Recycled Aggregate Concrete Rail Sleeper, and Innovative GFRP Wire Mesh. These projects were supported by research grants, including funding for glow-in-the-dark road stud innovation and the FF67 fund.

The IPITEx 2025 award ceremony took place on February 6, 2025, at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), Bangna. Organized by the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) under the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, the event brought together top innovators from around the world.

The awards were presented by Dr. Wiparat De-ong, Executive Director of NRCT, alongside Mr. Alireza Rastegar, President of the International Federation of Inventors’ Associations (IFIA), with participation from executives and representatives of 28 international and 32 Thai organizations. The event featured over 1,000 projects, underscoring its role as a key platform for global innovation collaboration.

Each year, only two projects receive the Grand Prize. In 2025, Walailak University’s "Innovative Composite Bar Mesh: GFRP Wire Mesh" secured one of these prestigious awards, strengthening Thailand’s presence on the global innovation stage. The other Grand Prize was awarded to Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Malaysia, for its project "NS-UR Flux-Cored Solder Wire: A High-Strength Solution for Reliable Interconnects in Advanced Electronic Applications.
