The School of Nursing at Walailak University (WU) has partnered with the Kulliyyah of Nursing, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), to enhance research collaboration and elevate the quality of nursing education.
A delegation from IIUM’s Kulliyyah of Nursing, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Kamil Che Hasan, Dean, was warmly welcomed by WU executives, namely Dr. Suthasinee Sangkhum, Assistant to the President; Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapen Sukhavulli, Dean of WU School of Nursing; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Director of the WU Center for International Affairs, at the Honor Hall of the Administrative Building.
Prof. Muhammad expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing its mutual benefits in research, publications, teaching, and staff mobility.
“This marks the beginning of our collaboration as we move towards signing an MoU between our institutions. In a couple of weeks, we might have a collaboration in terms of co-organizing an international conference between the two institutions. And hopefully, there will be more collaboration in the future.,” he said.
During the five-day visit, both institutions will engage in a series of workshops and discussions on key areas such as grant writing, publishing in high-impact journals, and interdisciplinary research partnerships. Specialized sessions cover topics such as community-based musculoskeletal care for older adults; knowledge, attitudes, practice, and barriers in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) among school teachers; compassionate care and diversity in nursing in the digital era; and spiritual care for ICU patients and their families.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Orapen highlighted the significance of the collaboration beyond academic exchange, saying “This initiative is not just about learning—it’s about fostering meaningful research partnerships that will lead to impactful outcomes for both institutions and the field of nursing as a whole.”
The collaboration with IIUM faculty members not only raises the standards of nursing education at WU School of Nursing by aligning practices with evidence-based nursing and international standards but also provides faculty members with opportunities to engage in research with international experts. This enhances the impact and visibility of research publications, increasing the chances of publication in top-tier journals.
Additionally, international collaboration fosters active and effective international research partnerships, enabling WU to increase the percentage of internationally co-authored research publications and strengthen its position as a globally frontier research university.
