CAS and Chevron Launch the 32nd Marine Ecology Summer Course to Foster Ocean Conservation

THA SALA, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 8 March 2025 – The Center for Academic Services at Walailak University, in collaboration with Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd., and partners, hosted the opening ceremony of the 32nd Marine Ecology Summer Course. The event was honored by Dr. Pinsak Suraswadi, Director of the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, who delivered the opening remarks. This was followed by welcome speeches from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warit Jawjit, Vice President of Walailak University, and Ms. Pornsuree Konanta, Vice President of Corporate Affairs at Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production, Ltd. Asst. Prof. Dr. Amonsak Sawusdee, Director of the Center for Academic Services, then provided an overview of the course’s objectives and structure.

The 32nd Marine Ecology Summer Course features 93 undergraduate and graduate students from universities across Thailand and is divided into two sessions. The first session, an online seminar series, takes place via Zoom Meetings between March and April 2025. The second session consists of hands-on field activities from April 20 to 28, 2025.

The opening ceremony concluded with a special talk by Asst. Prof. Dr. Thon Thamrongnawasawat, a renowned marine scientist and lecturer from the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries, Kasetsart University. Following this, participants were introduced to the program’s activities and had the opportunity to meet their seminar group advisors.
