Walailak University Celebrates Its 33rd Anniversary, Confers Royal Decorations on Distinguished Personnel



Walailak University marked its 33rd anniversary with a multi-faith merit-making ceremony and a royal decoration conferral ceremony honoring distinguished personnel. The celebration also featured the presentation of outstanding alumni awards in recognition of their contributions to the university and society.

On March 28, 2025, at 8:00 AM, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, and Mr. Teerachai Chemnasiri, Chair of the University Council, presided over an almsgiving ceremony, offering rice and dry food to 33 Buddhist monks. This was followed by a memorial service dedicated to Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an, founding president and key benefactor of Walailak University, as well as former faculty members, staff, and students who have passed away. The event also included an Islamic Du’a prayer and a Christian blessing ceremony, invoking good fortune for university executives, faculty, staff, and students on this auspicious occasion.

The event was attended by the Governor of Nakhon Si Thammarat, the Deputy Commander of the 41st Military District, distinguished guests, local dignitaries from Tha Sala District and Nakhon Si Thammarat Province, as well as university executives, faculty members, staff, and students.



During the formal ceremony at the university’s main auditorium in the Thaiburi Building, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong delivered a welcome address and presented the university’s achievements over the past year. He reaffirmed Walailak University’s commitment to continuously improving its global rankings and advancing both its physical infrastructure and academic excellence. He emphasized that enhancing the quality of education remains the university’s top priority while striving to establish Walailak University as the most beautiful campus in Thailand.



Following this, Mr. Teerachai Chemnasiri extended his best wishes for the university’s 33rd anniversary, highlighting its dedication to multiculturalism, as reflected in the morning’s multi-faith ceremonies. He also shared insights on sustainable growth, cautioning against complacency and arrogance in the face of success. He expressed confidence in his leadership as an administrator guided by integrity, honesty, and compassion, with the hope that Walailak University personnel would find happiness and enjoyment in their work. He aspires to see Walailak University ranked among Thailand’s top five universities in the near future.

A key highlight of the celebration was the royal decoration conferral ceremony, held in front of the royal portrait of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, to honor faculty and staff for their outstanding service in 2024. This was followed by the presentation of the Gold Rings of Honor for 25 Years of Service, Commemorative Gifts for 30+ Years of Service, and Outstanding Alumni Awards.
