Walailak University, in collaboration with the Promotion of Academic Olympiad and Development of Science Education Foundation (POSN), is preparing to host the 22nd Thailand Biology Olympiad from April 4-8, 2025, to select students who will represent Thailand at the International Biology Olympiad.

Associate Professor Dr. Mullica Jaroensutasinee, Vice President and Dean of the School of Science at Walailak University, stated that the university, through its School of Science, will host the event in collaboration with POSN, which operates under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra. This prestigious event, to be held at Walailak University in Nakhon Si Thammarat from 4 – 8 April 2025, aims to select top-performing Thai students for the International Biology Olympiad.

The competition will feature 100 students who have undergone training in the second POSN camp. These participants will include representatives from 13 Biology Olympiad Centers nationwide, students nominated by the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST), as well as faculty members, observers from the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), committee members from POSN, IPST, and OBEC, student mentors, and the organizing committee from the host center. Additionally, observers from next year’s host center will be present, bringing the total number of participants to approximately 250.

"We will use a standardized exam reviewed by distinguished experts from POSN, the academic committee of Walailak University, and faculty representatives from all 13 Biology Olympiad Centers. Competition results will be carefully evaluated by faculty representatives from all centers to ensure fairness and transparency," said Associate Professor Dr. Mullica.

Students who meet the required score thresholds will be awarded one of three levels of recognition: Gold Medal, Silver Medal, or Bronze Medal. Additionally, seven special achievement certificates will be presented for: Highest Total Score, Highest Theory Score, Highest Practical Score, Highest Score from Northern Thailand, Highest Score from Southern Thailand, Highest Score from Northeastern Thailand, and Highest Score from Central, Eastern, and Western Thailand (excluding students from the Mahidol Wittayanusorn School Center and Debsirin School Center).

Students who meet the required standards will also be eligible for further training camps organized by IPST, where they will undergo additional selection to represent Thailand at the International Biology Olympiad in the Philippines, scheduled for July 20-27, 2025.
