WU President Welcomes Parents of Freshmen 2025, Reaffirms Commitment to World-Class Education and English Language Support

On 10 May 2025, Walailak University (WU) organized the event “The First Step to Success: Walailak & Parents” to reassure and build confidence among parents who have entrusted their children’s education to the university. The event highlighted WU’s world-class quality in both academic instruction and student life, with the goal of nurturing globally competent graduates. It also introduced a free English preparation program ahead of the semester, in line with the university’s progressive English language education policy. More than 1,500 parents participated in the event held at the Thaiburi Auditorium and Lecture Building 5 on campus.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, along with university executives, warmly welcomed the parents and delivered a keynote address titled “Walailak on the Global Stage: International Education for Your Children’s Future.” He expressed his deep appreciation to all parents for placing their trust in WU and encouraged them to take pride in the fact that their children are studying at a globally ranked institution.

“Walailak University has been ranked among the world’s top universities by Times Higher Education (THE), most recently placed in the 1201+ global band and joint 6th in Thailand. In the THE Young University Rankings 2024, WU is ranked in the 501–600 bracket worldwide and joint 3rd nationally. Additionally, the university has been recognized as the No. 1 Green University in Southern Thailand for five consecutive years. We are determined to become one of the top five universities in the country in the near future. When the students graduate, our global rankings are sure to rise even further,” said Professor Dr. Sombat.

Walailak University offers comprehensive academic programs in health sciences, science and technology, and social sciences, with a strong focus on quality teaching across all disciplines. The university is committed to enhancing English language education by providing instruction from native-speaking lecturers. English is used as the medium of instruction for 25% of courses in the second year and 50% in the third year. As part of this commitment, a free four-week intensive English course is offered before the semester begins, emphasizing the importance of English as a key to unlocking future opportunities. The university also provides Smart Classrooms and state-of-the-art laboratories across all disciplines to support effective learning.

Beyond academic excellence, WU prioritizes students’ overall well-being. Spanning 9,594 rai (1,535 hectares), Walailak has the largest university campus in Thailand. It features Walailak Park - the country’s most beautiful and expansive ornamental garden within a university, international-standard sports facilities, modern dormitories with full amenities, a robust security system, and the most advanced hospital in Upper Southern Thailand.

“Walailak University assures all parents that we are wholeheartedly committed to nurturing your children to become capable individuals, responsible citizens, and globally competent graduates,” concluded Professor Dr. Sombat.
