Walailak University Wins Best Practice Award for Student Mental Health Care

 

On 6 August 2025, Associate Professor Dr. Urai Jaraeprapal, Vice President of Walailak University, together with Assistant Professor Pavarud Puangsri, M.D., Deputy Dean of the School of Medicine and Acting Deputy Director of Walailak University Hospital, presented on the topic Universities and Student Mental Health Care at the seminar Building Mental Strength for Sustainable Thai Mental Health: Better Mental Health Care for All.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Public Health through the Department of Mental Health, brought together more than 600 participants from across the country at the Prince Palace Hotel Bangkok.

At the seminar, Walailak University was honored with the Best Practice Award in the category of Outstanding Student Mental Health Care. The university also received a national plaque recognizing it as an institution with exemplary initiatives in supporting students’ mental well-being. This achievement reflects Walailak University’s comprehensive and effective approach to promoting mental health among its students.

The seminar provided a platform to strengthen collaboration among frontline practitioners, support agencies, and partners. It emphasized capacity building, mental health surveillance, proactive services, effective screening and referral systems, and the development of context-based approaches tailored to community needs. The ultimate goal is to ensure equal access to mental health care, reduce disparities, and sustainably promote mental well-being for all Thais.
