WU School of Education Partners with 71 Schools under Nakhon Si Thammarat Secondary Educational Service Area Office and Network Partners to Foster Academic Development and Produce High-Quality Teachers Aligned with International Standards

The School of Education, Walailak University, held a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony with the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Nakhon Si Thammarat and 71 affiliated schools, along with Nakhon Si Thammarat City Municipality, Hatyai City Municipality, and Muslim Santitham Foundation School — a total of 75 partner institutions. The collaboration aims to strengthen academic development, research, teaching management, and cultural preservation while producing professional teachers in accordance with the United Kingdom Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF).

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University, presided over the ceremony and signed the MOU together with Dr. Supap Temrat, Director of the Secondary Educational Service Area Office Nakhon Si Thammarat; Dr. Pawin Na Phatthalung, Deputy Mayor of Nakhon Si Thammarat City Municipality; Mr. Narongpon Na Patalung, Mayor of Hat Yai City Municipality; and principals from the 71 affiliated schools.

Also present were Associate Professor Dr. Charun Bunyakan, Vice President, and Professor Dr. Narin Sungrugsa, Acting Dean of the School of Education, along with representatives from participating schools and organizations, who signed as witnesses. The event was attended by university executives, lecturers, students, and distinguished guests at Srithammarat Conference Room, Architecture and Design Building, Walailak University, on 20 October 2025.

This MOU aims to promote joint development in academics, research, teaching, and cultural preservation, as well as to support undergraduate and postgraduate students in professional internships and teaching practicums. The agreement will remain in effect for five years from the signing date.

On this occasion, Professor Dr. Sombat delivered a special lecture on Developing Walailak University Toward Becoming a World-Class University, emphasizing that the School of Education — the university’s newest academic school — was established in response to public demand to cultivate education students with global knowledge, skills, and competencies. The School strives to produce highly qualified educators for the nation. At present, the School of Education offers ten majors and has already attracted many high-quality students.

“Please be assured that Walailak University is a comprehensive institution in every aspect. We have outstanding lecturers, talented students from across the country, and are among Thailand’s leading universities. Our modern facilities fully support both learning and campus life," he stated.

Professor Dr. Narin stated that the School of Education has been offering programs for three years, covering ten majors: Thai, English, Social Studies, Physical Education, Performing Arts, Early Childhood Education, Mathematics, Computer Education and Technology, Science-Biology, and General Science. In the past year, the school received applications from academically strong students nationwide, with an average GPA of 3.33. For TCAS1 admissions this year, more than 4,000 students have shown interest. In the upcoming academic year, the School will introduce new programs in Early Childhood Education, Educational Administration, and Innovation and Teaching,” said Professor Dr. Narin.

He added that, in addition to domestic teaching internships, the School also sends students abroad — for instance, to Indonesia — as part of its Premium Teacher Development Program, which emphasizes English proficiency, and professional teaching standards aligned with the UKPSF. The program also fosters strong ethics, morality, and professional responsibility among future teachers.
