
Walailak University had the honour of welcoming a delegation of administrators and faculty members from Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), People’s Republic of China, on 9 December 2025. The visit served as a platform for strengthening academic cooperation between the two institutions and reviewing progress on the establishment of the Confucius Institute at Walailak University.
The meeting took place at the Honor Hall of Professor Dr. Wichit Srisa-an Building. Representing Walailak University were Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President; Associate Professor Dr. Charun Bunyakan, Vice President, and faculty members. The ZUEL delegation was led by Ms. Ji Qun, Party Committee Secretary of the School of Journalism and Cultural Communication.
During the meeting, Ms. Ji Qun expressed her deep admiration for Walailak University’s scale, capability, and ongoing development. She shared that the visit offered opportunities for mutual learning and strengthening of the partnership.
“I am truly impressed by Walailak University. The campus is extensive, and the faculty members are highly capable and dedicated. ” Ms. Ji said.
She continued, “We hope to maintain and further strengthen the close, family-like relationship between our institutions, advancing and developing together. I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to the President, Vice President, directors, and all faculty members for their warm support.”
During the meeting, discussions focused on the development of the Confucius Institute at Walailak University, which aims to advance Chinese language and cultural learning for students and the general public. The project is currently in the documentation phase, with continued engagement from Chinese business associations and private sector partners. Planning for facilities and budget allocation is progressing in parallel.
The two universities also discussed the development of a 2+2 programme, which will allow students majoring in Chinese language with a concentration in Chinese for Economics and Law to complete two years of study at Walailak University followed by two years at ZUEL.
Reaffirming Walailak University’s commitment to long-term partnership, President Sombat stated: “I am confident that if we work together, we can go far. I hope that in the near future, we will expand our cooperation even more.”
As part of the programme, Walailak University also accompanied the ZUEL delegation to Kanlayanee Si Thammarat School and Thasalaprasitsuksa School in Nakhon Si Thammarat, fostering future academic collaboration and strengthening educational outreach.
