Walailak University to Strengthen Global Allied Health Sciences Network Through SAHIC 2026, Bridging Research and Real-World Healthcare Practice

The School of Allied Health Sciences (SAH) at Walailak University is set to host the 5th SAH International Conference (SAHIC 2026) on March 25, 2026. Organized as part of the Walailak Research Convention 2026, the conference will be conducted in a hybrid format, welcoming both onsite and online participants from seven countries.

The conference is organized in collaboration with the School’s four Centers of Excellence: The Research Excellence Center for Innovation and Health Products, the Center of Excellence for Melioidosis and Microorganisms, the Hematology and Transfusion Science Research Center, and the Movement Science and Exercise Research Center.

Themed “Advancing Physical Therapy and Medical Technology: Evidence, Innovation, and Clinical Integration,” SAHIC 2026 reflects the University’s commitment to elevating professional practice, research excellence, and global collaboration.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Voravuth Somsak, Dean of SAH, said that SAHIC has been established as the School’s signature annual international academic conference. Now in its fifth year, the 2026 edition marks a significant step forward in both scope and impact.

“This year, we place a clear emphasis on our two core professions - Physical Therapy and Medical Technology,” said Dr. Voravuth. “The theme reflects our mission to connect fundamental, evidence-based knowledge with innovation and practical clinical application.”

With the rapid rise of aging populations, Physical Therapy is playing an increasingly vital role in preventing disability, supporting stroke rehabilitation, and reducing the risk of elderly patients becoming bedridden.

At the same time, Medical Technology has evolved far beyond routine laboratory testing. Modern diagnostic approaches now extend to gene-level analysis, enabling early identification of disease risks. This shift toward precision diagnostics supports earlier prevention strategies and lifestyle adjustments.

Dr. Voravuth further explained that the conference theme clearly emphasizes the progression from evidence - grounded in fundamental knowledge and basic scientific understanding - to innovation, including the development of medical devices and technologies that enhance health and support normal daily living. These advances are ultimately integrated into clinical practice, where they are applied in real-world patient care.

A key highlight of SAHIC 2026 is its strengthened collaboration with international partners under established Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs). This year’s speakers reflect the School’s expanding global network, with distinguished experts from Japan, Portugal, Australia, and the United States.

The conference also provides opportunities for researchers to initiate cross-border collaborations, develop joint research proposals, and explore publication and funding prospects. In addition, it serves as a platform for students to present their research and academic work through competitive oral presentations, showcasing undergraduate and graduate talent from Walailak University and partner institutions in China and Taiwan.

“This platform allows our students to demonstrate their research potential while gaining valuable experience in an international academic setting,” Dr. Voravuth added. “They will have the opportunity to exchange perspectives with peers from abroad, observe global standards, and envision their own future pathways in research and professional practice.”

Through this experience, students not only strengthen their academic competencies but also gain exposure to international role models - researchers, scientists, and health professionals - who may inspire their future career trajectories.
