Walailak University signed MOU with Batangas State University (BatStateU), The Philippines

On September 9, 2021, Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University presided over the virtual signing ceremony of a Memorandum of Understanding between Walailak University (WU) and Batangas State University (BatStateU), The Philippines. The signing ceremony has been done at the Khao Luang Chamber, Cooperative Education Building, 2nd floor and via Zoom Cloud Meeting Teleconference. Also present at the signing ceremony were Assistant Professor Dr. Pongsathorn Dechatiwongse Na Ayudhya, Acting Dean, School of Languages and General Education, Assistant Professor Dr. Patnarin Supakorn, Acting Director, Center for International Affairs, and WU executives and staff to witness the signing and there were about 30 participants attended the ceremony.

On behalf of Batangas State University (BatStateU), The Philippines, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of Batangas State University, presided over the signing ceremony at BatStateU, together with Atty. Dr. Alvin R. De Silva, Chancellor, BatStateU of Lipa Campus and Dr. Francis G. Balazon, Vice Chancellor, Research, Development and Extension and Dean, College of Informatics and Computing Sciences as well as BatStateU executives to witness the signing.

Professor Dr. Sombat Thamrongthanyawong, President of Walailak University welcomed the President and executives of BatStateU and delighted to have the opportunity to collaborate with BatStateU even in the current situation of the COVID-19 pandemic. The two universities have similar visions and missions in producing quality graduates, be resourceful learning and research pillars for the benefit of the community, society, and moving forward to be recognized nationally and internationally. This signing will facilitate cooperation in teaching, research, exchange of professors and students and academic services with the hope that if the COVID-19 epidemic situation improves, both universities will be able to do on site activities together in the future.

Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo, President of Batangas State University, thanked and delighted to have Walailak University as a new academic partnership. Collaboration with institutions is now essential in responding to the Sustainable Development Goals and it is a key contributor to sustainable academic development. Despite the COVID-19 epidemic situation, there are still opportunities to collaborate with other institutions, such as opportunities for joint research, inviting visiting professors to join co-teaching after the signing enabling interchangeable professors, which is a cooperation without borders.

The MOU has been initiated under the collaboration of School of Languages and General Education with the main objectives to 1) facilitate exchanges between professors of both universities to create innovative research findings 2) facilitate staff and student exchanges in various forms 3) participate in the development of research collaboration projects 4) jointly organize programs and participate in academic programs such as conferences, seminars and workshops and 5) promote cooperation in other fields under mutual agreement by both parties.
