13 June 2025, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Thailand — Walailak University, through its Center for Academic Services, has provided a free event to connect and transfer sustainable aquaculture knowledge to equip local farmers with sustainable farming techniques. The event forms part of a broader academic service project under “The Livestock Occupation Promotion Project Series”.
The training brought together local farmers from Pak Phanang, Cha-uat, and Tha Sala districts in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The session focused on enhancing practical aquaculture skills and fostering sustainable livelihoods in the region. Additionally, the workshop featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suwit Wuthisuthimethavee and a team of experts from the School of Agricultural Technology and Food Industry. Participants engaged in hands-on sessions and received tailored advice on sustainable aquaculture practices. Also, open discussions allowed for experience-sharing and the strengthening of professional networks among local farmers.
The event took place at Meeting Room 2 of the Research and Academic Services Building, followed by a field visit to WU’s aquaculture ponds and the shrimp broodstock quarantine unit. The field-based learning provided free access to university facilities and offered practical insights and helped farmers connect theory with real-world practices.
This activity is part of Walailak University’s ongoing commitment to academic service for the public good. By supporting career development and empowering communities, the university aims to build resilience and promote long-term sustainability in the agricultural sector across southern Thailand.
