MUEANG, NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, 30 May and 18 August 2025 — Walailak University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warit Jawjit, Vice President, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Laksanara Khwanchum, Vice Director of the Center for Academic Services (CAS), and CAS staff, participated in the 1st and 2nd Meetings of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Climate Change Team held at Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Hall.

The meetings were organized under the framework of advancing Thailand’s national climate change policy at the local level. They aimed to gather opinions, exchange information, and discuss joint operational approaches among government agencies, academic institutions, and relevant sectors in order to strengthen the province’s capacity to cope with and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Walailak University contributed by proposing academic support and utilizing research data to assist in developing climate action plans, including greenhouse gas emission assessments and local-level carbon reduction initiatives.

During the second meeting, Walailak University engaged in discussions with various government organizations to address climate change and related issues. The agenda included:

     - Exploring potential collaboration to sign an MOU on integrated operations for Climate Change Adaptation under Thailand’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP);

     - Presenting the final report of the project “Guideline Development for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions at the Provincial Level toward Net Zero in 2023”;

     - Reporting on the implementation of the Provincial Greenhouse Gas Reduction Plan;

     - Reporting on the implementation of the Nakhon Si Thammarat Provincial Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan; and

     - Issuing orders to appoint committees and working groups on climate change.

This meeting reflects the collaboration between government agencies, educational institutions, and relevant sectors to drive greenhouse gas reduction and climate change adaptation in the region. This aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 13: Climate Action, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.
