As Walailak University prepares to celebrate its commencement ceremony on 26 September 2025, the event will mark a historic milestone with the first graduates of the Walailak University International College of Dentistry (WUICD).

Among the thirteen graduates of the first batch this year is Prin Wongsekleo, who now works at the very College where she once studied. She currently helps with coordinating academic activities, supervising laboratory work, and also serves an advisor for junior students.

While she has not yet begun teaching due to qualification requirements, she is determined to further her studies in order to return as a lecturer.

“I am so proud to be part of the first graduating class," Prin said. "Being in the inaugural batch meant the journey wasn't always smooth - there were challenges in both academic studies and clinical practice. It was demanding and required significant effort, but overcoming those obstacles makes me proud of how far I've come as well as my classmates.”

For Prin, the most memorable part of her time at WUICD was not only the quality of education she received, but also the friendships she built along the way.

“I was fortunate to have such wonderful classmates. Initially, I was concerned about fitting in, but ultimately, everyone proved to be incredibly kind, sincere, and supportive.”

“We looked after one another, particularly during our first year in Nakhon Si Thammarat. That shared experience brought us closer together. Even though we've now graduated and pursued different paths, those memories will always remain with me.”

Dental students at WUICD spend their first and second years studying at Walailak University in Nakhon Si Thammarat. Once they progress to clinical training, they continue their studies at WUICD in Bangkok.

Beyond academics and friendships, WUICD also offered Prin valuable opportunities outside the classroom. She participated in community projects, research, and even an international exchange program.

“During my community dentistry rotation at Ratchaburi Hospital, I had the opportunity to work on a research project studying the incidence of ventilator-associated pneumonia in ICU patients. It was an exceptional opportunity for a dental student to engage with critical care cases," Prin explained.

“During my final year, I selected an elective in the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery department, where I observed patient care in hospital wards and participated in dental outreach programs at local schools. This elective experience inspired me to pursue further studies in that specialized field.”

Another highlight, Prin said, was her participation in the student exchange program with Taipei Medical University, where she observed various specialized clinics, including pediatric dentistry, periodontics, and the prosthodontics department.

“The exchange program demonstrated that our education at WUICD met international standards. It was reassuring to confirm that our training was comparable to what prestigious universities abroad provide.”

Being part of the pioneering class, Prin believes that it shaped not only her professional skills but also her character.

“We had to overcome so many obstacles, which made us stronger. WUICD instilled responsibility, ethics, and time management in us. These qualities will guide us as dentists, ensuring we excel academically and serve patients with compassion.”

Now that she has graduated, Prin is determined to keep moving forward.

“I plan to specialize in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. After completing my residency program, I aspire to return to WUICD as a faculty member. Contributing to the development of our college is my ultimate goal.”

As one of WUICD’s first graduates, she has encouraging words for younger students and those considering joining the College.

“I understand that some prospective students may have concerns about joining a newly established institution, but I encourage you to be confident in your choice. Although WUICD is relatively new, our faculty members are highly respected professionals in their fields, and we maintain partnerships with prestigious universities internationally. The education here prepares you to practice at the same standard as graduates from any established dental school. If I could succeed here, so can you!”

For Prin, the pride of being among WUICD’s first graduates is an unforgettable memory that last long forever. Her journey represents not only personal achievement but also Walailak University’s success in nurturing a new generation of globally competent, compassionate dental professionals
