Walailak University (WU) has achieved another milestone on the global stage, winning the 2025 Global MOOC and Online Education Alliance (GMA) Award for its innovative online course, “Work Performance Enhancement with AI.” Developed under the ThaiMOOC platform, the course received the AI Special Recognition Award for its outstanding integration of artificial intelligence into online learning.

The course was developed by an academic team led by Assistant Professor Korakot Suwannarat, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Karanrat Thammarak and Assistant Professor Dr. Chirawat Wattanapanich from the School of Engineering and Technology. Their success highlights Walailak University’s growing leadership in digital and AI-driven education.

Reflecting on this achievement, Assistant Professor Korakot Suwannarat said he felt “deeply honored and truly grateful.”

“This award not only reflects the dedication of our team but also represents Thailand’s growing capability in advancing digital and AI education creatively,” he shared. “It is a shared pride of Walailak University, the course developers, instructors, students, and our university community who worked together to make AI learning accessible and truly meaningful.”

The GMA Awards celebrate outstanding innovations in online and AI-supported education worldwide. In 2025, twenty courses were selected as winners - ten in the main GMA Awards and ten in the AI Special Recognition category. Walailak University’s course stood out for its practical, forward-looking approach to teaching AI literacy.

Assistant Professor Korakot explained that the award-winning course aims to build essential AI competencies for the modern workforce.

“The course helps learners develop AI literacy and apply AI tools to enhance productivity, creativity, and decision-making in their work - aligning with the broader vision of Smart City development,” he said.

The course features hands-on activities such as building AI models using no-code platforms and creating AI chatbots for real-world applications. Accessible via ThaiMOOC and soon to be available on the Global MOOC Alliance portal, it extends its reach to international learners. Through practical exercises, learners gain confidence to use AI responsibly and effectively in their everyday work and life.

Assistant Professor Korakot believes that AI will play a vital role in reshaping the way people work across all professions in the near future - becoming “a true co-thinker” that helps analyze data faster, reduce repetitive tasks, and amplify human creativity.

“However, its success will depend on how ethically we apply AI and how wisely we balance it with human judgment and empathy in decision-making,” he said.

He also offered encouraging words to students and fellow educators interested in integrating AI into their studies or teaching.

“Start small but think big. Don’t be afraid to explore AI - experiment, adapt, and learn from the experience. Most importantly, cultivate critical thinking and ethical awareness, because true AI literacy is not just about using technology, but about understanding its impact on people and society.”
