Walailak University continues to strengthen its position as the premier green campus in Southern Thailand, securing the No. 1 spot in the region for the sixth consecutive year according to the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025. The university is now ranked joint 82^nd globally and 6^th nationally.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2025 evaluated 1,745 institutions from 105 countries, an increase from 1,477 institutions in 95 countries last year. Among these, 61 Thai universities were included in the 2025 ranking.

The assessment is based on six criteria: Setting and Infrastructure (15%), Energy and Climate Change (21%), Waste (18%), Water (10%), Transportation (18%), and Education and Research (18%). Walailak University achieved a total score of 8,700 points, up from 8,575 in 2024.

Among the six criteria, the university particularly excelled in Setting and Infrastructure, ranking first in Thailand and joint 10^th globally. This achievement reflects the university’s sustained efforts to expand green spaces, protect natural ecosystems, and develop environmentally conscious campus infrastructure.

The university also recorded improvements in Energy and Climate Change, Water, and Education and Research - demonstrating progress in sustainable energy use, water conservation, and the integration of sustainability into teaching and research. The Waste score remained stable compared to last year, while the Transportation category recorded a slight decrease.

Last month, Walailak University formally announced a bold and forward-looking commitment to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. This pledge aligns with Thailand’s National Net Zero Roadmap and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, reaffirming the university’s leadership in sustainability at the regional, national, and global levels.
