The Center of Excellence in Tropical Pathobiology, School of Medicine, Walailak University, will organize the International Hybrid Seminar 2026 under the theme “Transdisciplinary Perspectives in Health Sciences” on 27 March 2026. The seminar, held as part of the Walailak Research Convention 2026, will bring together researchers, clinicians, students, and industry partners to explore how integrated approaches can address today’s complex global health challenges.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prapaporn Chaniad, Head of the Center of Excellence in Tropical Pathobiology at Walailak University, the inspiration behind the seminar stems from the Center’s commitment to tackling health issues through more than isolated expertise.

“In today’s world, combating issues such as malaria, antimicrobial resistance, and non-communicable diseases requires a transdisciplinary perspective to create truly impactful solutions,” she explained.

She emphasized that the theme was chosen at a crucial time when the path from understanding disease pathogenesis to developing effective treatments must be seamless. By integrating molecular pathology, clinical application, and commercial innovation, the seminar aims to accelerate the transition of research from the laboratory to the patient’s bedside, contributing to sustainable global health solutions.

The seminar will be hosted as part of the Walailak Research Convention 2026, an annual university event held to celebrate the University’s establishment anniversary. This year marks the 34th anniversary of Walailak University, with the convention taking place from 25–28 March 2026.

Dr. Prapaporn further explained that while multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approaches are widely recognized, transdisciplinary work goes a step further.

“Transdisciplinary means transcending traditional boundaries to create a unified framework. In health sciences, we integrate molecular pathology, clinical practice, and commercial innovation from the start. It is about co-creating a new perspective that moves research seamlessly from the laboratory to the patient’s bedside to solve complex health challenges.”

She added that transdisciplinary work also extends beyond academia, connecting scientific knowledge with societal needs to improve real-world patient care and experience.

A highlight of the seminar is the participation of distinguished speakers from the School of Medical Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norsuhana Binti Omar will speak on Nature-Based Therapeutics for Sustainable Healthcare, while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd. Shahrulsalam Mohd. Shah will present on Advancing Paediatric Surgery in a Sustainable Era.

Researchers, clinicians, students in health sciences, and industry partners attending the seminar will be able to bridge the gap between molecular pathology and clinical innovation while gaining a broader perspective on translating research into improved patient outcomes and commercial potential.

She envisions the seminar as a catalyst to strengthen Walailak University’s recognition as a hub for tropical disease research. It also aims to inspire researchers and students to adopt transdisciplinary thinking while fostering long-term national and international partnerships.

Dr. Prapaporn extended an invitation to students, researchers, and professionals to join the seminar, saying:

“The future of healthcare is no longer found within a single field. If you are looking for new perspectives that bridge discovery and delivery, this seminar is for you. Join us to exchange ideas, build networks, and be part of a transdisciplinary community that turns scientific research into real-world impact.”
