Walailak University Rises to 7th in Thailand in SCImago Institutions Rankings 2026, with Three Subject Areas Ranked in the National Top 5

Walailak University has made a significant leap in the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026, rising to 7th place among 42 universities in Thailand in the Universities category. The University is also ranked 449th in Asia and 1,323rd worldwide, reflecting notable progress in research performance and international academic visibility.

The 2026 results represent a strong improvement from last year’s performance, when Walailak University was ranked 12th in Thailand, 641st in Asia, and 1,854th globally. This year, the University moved up five positions nationally, 192 positions in Asia, and 531 positions worldwide, marking a remarkable rise in both regional and global standing.

The SCImago Institutions Rankings are internationally recognized evaluations that assess institutional performance through a composite framework integrating research productivity, technological innovation, and societal visibility using globally benchmarked data sources. Institutions are evaluated across three primary dimensions: Research (50%), Innovation (30%), and Societal Impact (20%).

In SIR 2026, Walailak University recorded the following results:
Research Rank: 5th in Thailand, 260th in Asia, and 968th globally
Innovation Rank: 10th in Thailand, 1,073rd in Asia, and 2,060th globally
Societal Impact Rank: 16th in Thailand, 562nd in Asia, and 2,089th worldwide

The University’s 5th-place national ranking in Research highlights its strong performance across key SIR indicators, including research output, normalized citation impact, excellence in highly cited publications, and international collaboration, based primarily on Scopus-indexed data. The advancement across all three dimensions reflects the University’s sustained strategic focus on enhancing research quality, expanding global partnerships, strengthening innovation capacity, and deepening societal engagement.
